Horror Writing Day

An online writing day for women who like their stories a little darker.

Sunday, October 4

11 AM – 4 PM PT | Zoom | $79

A Writing Day, Not Another Zoom Meeting

This isn’t five hours of sitting and listening.

The majority of the day will be spent actually developing and writing your story with mentor Tracee Beebe.

Bring your laptop, your story, your favorite writing drink, and spend a Sunday making real progress alongside other women screenwriters. Whether you’re starting a new idea, outlining, rewriting, or deep into a draft, you’ll have dedicated time to work on your horror, thriller, supernatural, or genre project and a room full of women doing the same.

What the Day Will Look Like

We’ll move through a series of guided story sessions, writing blocks, breaks, and opportunities to share your work.

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Welcome + Logline Workshop
Start the day by clarifying the heart of your story and strengthening the way you communicate your premise.

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Character Development
Dig deeper into your protagonist, antagonist, motivations, fears, conflicts, and what makes your characters worth following into the dark.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Lunch Break

2:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Focused Writing Block
Write, rewrite, or strengthen your opening scene, with dedicated time to focus on character, tension, stakes, and what needs to happen on the page.

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Scene feedback
Writers who want to share will have the opportunity to hear a scene read aloud, followed by a final check-in to celebrate progress and set intentions for what comes next.

Who This Is For

This writing day is for women screenwriters working on horror, thriller, psychological, supernatural, slasher, creature, dark comedy, or other genre-driven stories.

Dress Code: Spooky

Totally optional but highly encouraged.

Come in whatever makes the day feel a little more fun:

  • Your favorite horror movie tee

  • Witchy black

  • Halloween accessories

  • Something inspired by your own script

  • Or just your comfiest writing clothes

The goal is simply to make our virtual writing room feel a little more like a horror writers’ weekend and a little less like another Zoom call. Bonus points for spooky mugs, candles, creepy backgrounds, and snacks worthy of a final girl.

Up to 10 writers

Meet Your Mentor

Tracee Beebe is an award-winning screenwriter whose scripts and films have received recognition at prominent festivals and screenwriting competitions.

She specializes in writing “horror with heart”—character-driven genre stories with an underlying message. Her work often centers on badass, yet deeply human, women pushing themselves beyond their limits to survive impossible situations… kind of like they do in real life.

Tracee was hired to write the film adaptation of the hit video game THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT which screened theatrically worldwide and is now one of Shudder’s most streamed horror films. Her script APEX (formerly DEEP WATER) was selected for the 2019 BloodList, has Ryûhei Kitamura attached to direct with Joe Russo attached as producer and sold to VMI to shoot in 2026.
